A subject I enjoy

Hi!

Today's topic is a subject I've enjoyed this semester. I actually don't have many options to choose, because I only have 4 subjects, but I think the one I've liked the most is Geometry.

In this subject you learn the basics of technical drawing like perspective, how to draw simple figures and volumes and how to intersect them so you can create interesting forms that can be used for a future architecture project.

For this class you don't need to know much about math or physics,
just a little of measurements, because it's basically just drawing, memorizing some steps and information and managment of the rulers, which is really important for a good and precise work. For this, we use 2 rulers; one with 45°,45° and the other with 30°,60°.

Basically, all we do in class is drawing or watching the teacher while she is drawing, so I think that's why i like the subject, because I really like drawing and also because I´m good at it and I have good grades. I also find it really fun, interesting and relaxing comparing to the other subjects I have. So I hope I can keep looking for some more information and learn more about it after the end of the semester.

My Blogging Experience

Hi!

Well, as you can imagine by the title, today i'm sharing with you my experience writing this blog :)

I think writing a blog is full of positive things, and it's better if you are doing it in other language like we've been doing for the past 5 months.
It has been an interesting experience i wasn't used to do, even though sometimes it's kind of boring, in general, it's been relaxing.

I think it's been really useful to put my ideas and my mind in order and to remember how to write some words correctly, because many times has happen to me that i know how to pronounce a word and the meaning of it, but i just forget how to write it. Also when I'm speaking in english (in spanish too) i tend to repeat a lot some phrases and some words even though i know synonymous of it, but i don't really use them that much so they're just sleeping in my memory. But now, I feel like i can remember more words than before.

In the future, i would like to write about random topics to keep away architecture from my mind for a while and write about food, trips, different places in the world, etc.

A person i admire in my field

Hello Everyone!!

Today I have to write about someone I admire in my field, but actually, i don`t really know much about architects so it's kind of hard for me. But recently  I´ve been looking for some information about a famous architect I was interested to know, his name is Alejandro Aravena and i really admire what he has done so i´d like to share with you about it.

He was born in 1967 in Chile in a middle class family, his parents were teachers at a private school. He graduated from architecture at "Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile" in 1992, and he's been working as an architect since 1994.

He have won a lot of prizes because of his work, including the Pritzker Prize which is the equivalent to the Nobel Prize, but of architecture. His work includes from innovating and contemporany buildings like education centers, institutional buildings, offices, public services offices, museums and libraries to social housing.

I particulary admire his social commitment which is reflected in his work on social housing which main objective is the "increase posibility", which means that the family can improve their house with time and elevate the price of the property.
He also had an important role helping to reconstruct the city of copiapo after the tsunami in 2010 by proposing a "wall" of trees near to the coast, solving 2 problems at once; the lack of green areas and the floods.

This are just a few of his works, he has many other projects orientated to society and the poorest part of it.

The Truth or Feeling Good?

Hi!

This time I'd like to share with you my opinion about a kind of philosophical question ..What do you prefer; the truth or feeling good?
Well, I definitely prefer the true, I feel like the other option is kind of living in a lie, a bit irresponsable.
I think that many times people don't want to know the truth about something because they're afraid of it, they don't want to face it and they just ignore them and run away from the situation. I think is really normal, i mean, we're all human beings, we all have feelings, and we're all afraid of something different, but we shouldn't scape from problems, we should face them and solve them. I believe life can be hard many times but one of the greatest qualities of man is the ability to overcome those situations, to face them, to adapt and keep on our lifes with a stronger mind.
Of course, truth is not always a painful thing, but I think even If It's hard or not, dealing with it is part of our lifes and we have the chance to accept it and learn from it.

My Dream Job

Hello everyone!

This time I would like to tell you about my dream job, Well, I'm not really sure if it's a job because you don't get paid for it, but it's something I'd really like to do in the future. I'm talking about being an activist for the animal rights and for the environment. I've always loved animals and cared about them so traveling all over the world and going to exotic places to save animals like Eliza Thornberry would be amazing.

I've always wanted to be part of people who fight against the fur and leather industry, oil companies, animal testing in general (cosmetics, experiments...), the hunt and many other cruel, bad and unnecessary human activities. In fact, there are a lot of famous people (which I really admire) like Pamela Anderson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Paul McCartney and many others that work hard for protecting animals and the environment.

I know It wouldn't be easy, and I'd have to be prepared for any kind of emergencies, so I think It would be really useful to know about veterinary medicine (altough I don't really like medicine). Anyway, even if It’s hard, being an activist is one of my "dreams" and I really hope I can make It true in a near future.

My Future Profession

Hi! Today I'd like to share with you what my profession's about. Actually I'm still studying it so It's not my profession yet, but It will be in the future. So, as you already know I am an architecture student and I think that being an architect is really fun; being able to create spaces where people can feel comfortable or designing beautiful and functional buildings it's pretty interesting. From the beginning of human race, architecture has been such an important thing for the life of people, all of us need a place where we can sleep safety, eat or do whatever we want.

I really like the fact that this profession has many sides, from artistic to historical and functional, and it has also different labor camps, from urbanism to building. I think that's one of the reasons why i chose this career,
I wanted to have different experiences, i didn't want a boring job at an office, i like being independent, so a dynamic profession like this was perfect for me. I have to say that it's hard, it has a lot of work, but is nice when you finish a project and you feel like all of the effort you made worth it, it's a really satisfactory sensation.

The Greatest Concert

Hello everyone!

Last year I had the great oportunity to see one of my favourite band on a concert here in Chile. I think they're pretty famous, their grunge songs are always playing on the radio (at least on alternative radio stations). I'm talking about Pearl Jam, I always listen to their music when I have to work late at night or when I just want to get relax, I really like them so I was very exited when my parents gave me the tickets as my birthday's present.

It was my first time going to the concert of a famous an international band so I was a little nervous. It was at the "Estadio Nacional" and I had never been there at that time so I was surprised because It was really big and the place was crowded, I mean really, it was full of people! I went to the concert with my father on november 4th, he is also a fan of the band but not as much as me, we both had fun that night, the band sang the songs I like the most, Eddie Vedder's voice was amazing even thought he's 51, I was totally satisfied with the concert, I think Pearl Jam totally rocked that night! I really hope they come back to Chile soon so I can go and see them again.

My autobiography

Hi!

My name is Luna Javiera Huerta Benavente, my dad chose the name "Luna" because he really liked astronomy and he thought it would be a good name, i agree with him now, but when i was a child people always made fun of my name singing songs and stuff like that, i didn't really care because it wasn't ofensive but sometimes it was so repetitive that it bothered me.
I was born in a small city called San Fernando, in 1997, where i lived my entire life until last year.  My parents are Edith Benavente and Víctor Huerta, i have also a sister called Pamela and a dog named Duff.
I enjoy reading, Dan Brown, Stephen King and George Orwell are some of my favorites writers. I also like languages, i really like learning new idioms, I think i know plenty of english, a bit of japanesse and currently i'm learning german and italian online. But the thing I like the most is drawing, i've always liked drawing, when i was a child i used to spend hours sitting in my room just drawing and painting. I wanted to study something related to art, and as i also needded a career with ecomomycal stability (since my family have economycal problems), I decided to study Architecture in the "Universidad de Chile".
