A subject I enjoy

Hi!

Today's topic is a subject I've enjoyed this semester. I actually don't have many options to choose, because I only have 4 subjects, but I think the one I've liked the most is Geometry.

In this subject you learn the basics of technical drawing like perspective, how to draw simple figures and volumes and how to intersect them so you can create interesting forms that can be used for a future architecture project.

For this class you don't need to know much about math or physics,
just a little of measurements, because it's basically just drawing, memorizing some steps and information and managment of the rulers, which is really important for a good and precise work. For this, we use 2 rulers; one with 45°,45° and the other with 30°,60°.

Basically, all we do in class is drawing or watching the teacher while she is drawing, so I think that's why i like the subject, because I really like drawing and also because I´m good at it and I have good grades. I also find it really fun, interesting and relaxing comparing to the other subjects I have. So I hope I can keep looking for some more information and learn more about it after the end of the semester.

My Blogging Experience

Hi!

Well, as you can imagine by the title, today i'm sharing with you my experience writing this blog :)

I think writing a blog is full of positive things, and it's better if you are doing it in other language like we've been doing for the past 5 months.
It has been an interesting experience i wasn't used to do, even though sometimes it's kind of boring, in general, it's been relaxing.

I think it's been really useful to put my ideas and my mind in order and to remember how to write some words correctly, because many times has happen to me that i know how to pronounce a word and the meaning of it, but i just forget how to write it. Also when I'm speaking in english (in spanish too) i tend to repeat a lot some phrases and some words even though i know synonymous of it, but i don't really use them that much so they're just sleeping in my memory. But now, I feel like i can remember more words than before.

In the future, i would like to write about random topics to keep away architecture from my mind for a while and write about food, trips, different places in the world, etc.

A person i admire in my field

Hello Everyone!!

Today I have to write about someone I admire in my field, but actually, i don`t really know much about architects so it's kind of hard for me. But recently  I´ve been looking for some information about a famous architect I was interested to know, his name is Alejandro Aravena and i really admire what he has done so i´d like to share with you about it.

He was born in 1967 in Chile in a middle class family, his parents were teachers at a private school. He graduated from architecture at "Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile" in 1992, and he's been working as an architect since 1994.

He have won a lot of prizes because of his work, including the Pritzker Prize which is the equivalent to the Nobel Prize, but of architecture. His work includes from innovating and contemporany buildings like education centers, institutional buildings, offices, public services offices, museums and libraries to social housing.

I particulary admire his social commitment which is reflected in his work on social housing which main objective is the "increase posibility", which means that the family can improve their house with time and elevate the price of the property.
He also had an important role helping to reconstruct the city of copiapo after the tsunami in 2010 by proposing a "wall" of trees near to the coast, solving 2 problems at once; the lack of green areas and the floods.

This are just a few of his works, he has many other projects orientated to society and the poorest part of it.

"Centro de Innovación UC Anacleto Angelini"

"Quinta Monroy" social housing project in Iquique
